St Paul's was built in 1891 by Micklethwaite, retaining the tower from an earlier church of 1841.

The interior has a wide nave with four bay arcades, a rood screen, fine painted ceilings and an impressive set of stained glass windows designed by Burne Jones for the Morris Company.

Kelly's Directory 1930 has :-

"The church of St. Paul, erected in 1891 in place of the former church built in 1846, is an edifice of stone in the Early English style, from the designs of Messrs. J. T. Micklethwait F.S.A. and Somers Clarke F.S.A. architects, of Westminster, the cost, amounting to £12,000, being mainly defrayed by Sir H. B. Bacon bart. ;

it consists of chancel with chapel of St. Hugh on the south side, nave of five bays, aisles, transepts and the former western tower, an embattled structure containing one bell :

a richly carved oak screen with great rood and attendant figures separates the chancel from the nave : the font is of Frosterley marble, and the benches, pulpit, lectern and choir stalls of oak :

there are eight stained windows, executed from designs by Sir E. Burne-Jones R.A. : the east window is a memorial to Elizabeth (Beckett), wife of the late Sir Henry Hickman Bacon bart. (she d. 29 Nov. 1885); to Edmund Bacon esq. lieut. the King's Royal Rifles, d. 13 Aug. 1886, and to Louisa Bacon, d. 2 Mar. 1882, and there are others to Henry Bacon Hickman, who gave the site of the church ; Samuel Sandars and Jane Sandars, who laid the foundation stone of the church in 1845 ; and to the Rev. G. W. banks, vicar from 1880-1913 ; Sir Henry Hickman Bacon hart. d. 1872; John Edward Sandars, d. 1890; to his widow, Eliza Anna Sandars, d. 2 July, 1896, and to Lieut. Cyril German banks, who was killed 31 May, 1900, during the South African war ; there is also a brass to the same officer, erected by the officers of the Manchester Regiment: on the west wall is a brass tablet, erected in 1922, in memory of the men of the parish who fell in the Great War, 1914-18:

the church will seat 450 persons"

"The Grade II* listed church is dedicated to Saint Paul.

The current building dates from 1890-91 and was built to the designs of J. T. Micklethwaite and Somers Clarke, incorporating the tower of the church consecrated in 1846, which appears to have been re-faced.

The width of the 1840s church decided the width of the nave of the current church.

An 1890-91 building campaign was largely financed by the then Premier Baronet, Sir Hickman Becket Bacon, at a cost of £11,000.

The church includes a chapel to Saint Hugh off the south aisle.

Of note is the chancel carpet designed by William Morris and stained glass windows by Burne-Jones, executed by Morris & Co"

Local signage states that :-

"The spotted metal pipework is housed in a Micklewaite and Somers Clark case which is painted in fine red and green with gilded tracery. It is mentioned in The British Organ by Clutton & Nillard.

A detached oak console with roll top and integral music desk is situated in St Hugh's chapel on the south side of the church and was resited from the old organ loft in 1964.

The first organ was built by Brindley & Foster of Sheffield that was moved from the west end in 1882. The organ was sold to Blyton church in 1890. It was replaced in 1891 by the pipework and soundboard of the August Gern organ and sited on the north side organ loft"

"The Morton Gymes disaster in October 1914 related to the presence of over 4,000 Yorkshire Territorials in Gainsborough, to carry on their training before being sent to France in April 1915.

They were billeted with local families, many of whom had husbands and sons who had enlisted in the army.

On Friday, February 19th, 1915, the town was shocked when seven members of "D" Company of the 4th Battalion, King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry were drowned.

They had gone to a local pond, known locally as a "gyme," in Morton, to practice raft building. A raft was built consisting of tarpaulins filled with straw, ropes and planks of wood.

Estimates of the number of soldiers on board the raft when it tipped over were disputed, some claimed that it was up to 40 and it is recorded that 7 soldiers died.

In 2015, as part of a WW1 related HLF project, a new memorial was established and dedicated at St Paul's Church"
